Milan, Day 2: Design That Mirrors Our Emotions
It’s interesting how fashion and design are so influenced by our environments.
Historically, in times of depressions and recessions, popular colors tend toward beiges and grays.
I’m definitely noticing that trend in Milan: lots of white, beige, creme and grays in the designs.
For example, I’m seeing simple couches in creams and greys that are accessorized by beautiful chairs in bold colors like lime, orange and red to make a room really pop.
There’s a bright spot of hope with the use of bold colors as accents. The designs convey a feeling of understated elegance and calm, along with cautious cheer.
It’s as though the designers are saying, “Breathe, relax and remember, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”
