Going Outside at Dwell on Design

I attended the inspirational Dwell on Design show at the Los Angeles Convention Center last week and wanted to share my favorite contemporary design concepts.

There were many areas of inspiration in color, product and design throughout the show this year. However, with the Los Angeles sunshine and perfect weather, I was roused by the brilliant displays of outdoor living that were showcased!

A Twist on Seating

Oyler Wu Collaborative exhibited these beautiful outdoor chairs that are a perfect blend of form and functionality! They are designed with continuous silver polypropylene rope looping around the steel frame.  The result is a visually stimulating piece of artwork that wraps the mind in creative symmetry.

Outdoor Living

This fantastic concept for outdoor living by Casa Bubble is just up our alley – equipped with closets and storage space! The ingenious design is frameless and comes equipped with a built-in turbine which retains its bubble shape, eliminates pollen and keeps the air filtered and fresh.

This is a wonderful concept for creating an extra room for work or play, a magical backyard getaway for your kids, or a charming “cottage” for guests. Imagine the joy of sleeping under the stars in the Bubble House!

Entertaining Outside

Here’s another ingenious way to expand your space with this wonderful rotating outdoor room by G-Pod! The convertible unit functions for dining, lounging, reading and entertaining. It rotates on a bottom pedestal so that you can enjoy the full environment and position the entrance to make the best of sun, shade or wind to enhance your experience. What a wonderful way to enjoy a summer evening in the backyard!

On the Road

And if you must leave home….hit the road in the Cricket!

This fantastic pop-up trailer acts as a great home-away-from-home for the summer traveler. The lightweight trailer is easily hitched to your own vehicle to make a weekend getaway carefree! The roof pops up to provide a spacious interior that incorporates sleeping areas, dining space, and kitchen. The pop-up area also houses additional sleeping space for children so a family of four can comfortably fit.

I’d love to hear what you think about these outdoor designs in the comments. Would you love to own one of these designs?

And if you’ve found this post helpful or inspirational, please share it with your friends and family!
